BIOGRAPHY

Robert (Bobby) Thomas was born in Newport News, Virginia. His
musical interest became noticeable at the age of 10. He began
singing in church and experimenting
with various instruments. By the time he had reached his maturity he
had several songs to his writing credit.
He was involved with several singing groups and after many years he
was able to secure a contract with Chess Records in 1963. From then
on his musical career expanded to include his being the opening act
for many great artists such as James Brown, Natalie Cole, Bohannon,
the group Peter, Paul, and Mary, The Spinners, and Della Reese and
Jackie Wilson. He has recorded with such companies as Curtom,
Mercury, RCA, and Hawk Records.
He was a member of the vocal group The Dutches for 1 year then later
joined the group The Gospel Crusaders whom he sang with for 5 years.
He then formed his own group called Channel 3.
During
the mid seventies after meeting Emmett Gardner, Promotion Director
for Curtom Records, Bobby was introduced to and became a member of
the Notations. Bobby is the “Fire and Ice” of the group. He sings
from full vocal power on up-tempo tunes to smooth mellowness on the
best of any ballad. He can be classified as a “Singer’s Singer” His
vocal qualifications earn him the right for his name to be placed
along side Nat King Cole, Brook Benton, Johnny Hartman, Arthur
Prysock, and Billy Eckstine. His musical influences were Rev. James
Cleveland, Sam Cook, and Philippe Wynn of the legendary group The
Spinners. During his spare time he likes to relax and listen to
various styles of music to keep his creative musical juices flowing.
He is still performing today.
