The Legendary Notations, A Chicago based vocal group was founded
by Clifford Curry and LaSalle Matthews at Parker High School in 1962. A
short time later another outstanding singer from Dunbar High School; Mr.
James Stroud was added to the group and that became the start of The
Original Notations.
The Notations performed in and around
Chicago making a name for themselves. IN late 1967 they signed to a
very small label called TAD Records and recorded a couple songs very
local no hits. In 1969 became a big break. Clifford Curry met
recording artist Syl Johnson who was a mid level record
TWINIGHT Records. Mr. Johnson offered them a record contract and
history began. The first song Clifford wrote, "I'm Still Here"
became an international hit. It established The Notations as one of
the top vocal groups through the 70's and 80's. The Notations worked
in the states and overseas with such artists as The Temptations,
James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Staple Singers, Chi-Lites, Al Green just
to name a few.
When TWINIGHT Records folded, The
Notations with the advice of promoter Emmett Garner signed to
CURTOM-GEMIGO 1974 Record Company owned by Mr. Curtis Mayfield.
Again hits followed the group with the first single, "It Only Hurts
For a Little While" also a number one disco hit, "Think Before You
Stop".
The group stayed with Curtom records until
1979 then 1980 moved on to MERCURY Records for two years with one
regional hit, "Judy Blue Eyes", the group worked then took a three
year break in 1988-1991. In 1992 Clifford formed his label STILL
HERE Records and started to put his own records bringing in Michael
Thurman. Marcus Gentry The Notations are still at the top of their
game 1992-2011.
